Bamboo Corner
How will Singapore’s retail scene look like in the future? The anthropogenic climate crisis and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has exposed flaws in the way we live and consume. This project explores local and greener alternatives to the import-driven, multi-national retail culture of Singapore, and calls for people to reconsider their consumption patterns and return to their cultural roots. By blurring the distinction between a local street market and an enclosed high-end shopping mall, Bamboo Corner’s sculptural open-air market space in Queenstown, Singapore, is not simply a space for for small local businesses to thrive, but a place that reflects the collective adoption of environmentally-conscious attitudes in the wider community.
