Garden of Conditions

On the urban boundary of Felixstowe, the main road out of town provides transport to an army of lorries, distributing goods from and to the nearby port. On its side resides one the few remaining allotment sites left in Felixstowe's town.

Amongst a chaotic grid of allotment plots, a traditional thermal stone wall forms a necklace surrounding disregarded land left between neighbouring plots. Resting upon the thick walls, a series of roofs establish varying conditions with the purpose to nurture exotic produce, otherwise imported from abroad.

And so, a series of conditions form a diverse garden of industrial food production, resting within that of historic cultivation on a home-grown scale. Both ensure their existence through a mutual reliance, united in the pursuits of local and sustainable methods of food production.
